PortableApps Platform

PortableApps.com is the world's most popular portable software solution allowing you to take your favorite software with you. A fully open source and free platform, it works on any portable storage device (USB flash drive, memory card, portable hard drive, etc), cloud drive (DropBox, Google Drive, etc), or installed locally.

ZoomIt

Sysinternals ZoomIt is a screen zoom and annotation tool for technical presentations that include application demonstrations. ZoomIt includes a full-screen countdown timer.

Clonezilla (LiveCD ISO)

Clonezilla is a partition and disk imaging/cloning program that helps you to do system deployment and bare metal backup and recovery. If your machine comes with uEFI secure boot enabled use the alternative (Ubuntu-based) AMD64 version.

SystemRescueCd (LiveCD ISO)

SystemRescueCd is a Linux system rescue disk available as a bootable CD-ROM or USB stick for administrating or repairing your system and data after a crash.

Hiren's BootCD (LiveCD ISO) (new, untested version)

Hiren's BootCD is a bootable software CD containing a number of diagnostic programs for use in troubleshooting and recovery of computers.

Rufus

Rufus is an utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. It can create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.).

Sumatra PDF

Sumatra PDF is a fast minimalist PDF, eBook (ePub, Mobi), XPS, DjVu, CHM, Comic Book (CBZ and CBR) reader for Windows.

Metapad

Metapad is a small, fast and completely free text editor with similar features to Microsoft Notepad but with many extra (and rather useful) features.

VideoLAN VLC Media Player

VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols. Link to the 64-bit version is below the obvious links.

VLastLog

The purpose of the VLastLog tool is to allow system administrators to log onto a Windows workstation without disturbing the last logged on user text.

WhatInStartup

NirSoft WhatInStartup allows you to easily disable or delete unwanted programs that run in your Windows startup.

Autoruns for Windows

This utility claims to have the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor. See also "Start -> All Programs -> Startup" and "win+R -> msconfig".

Microsoft Silverlight

Microsoft Silverlight is an application framework with features and purposes similar to those of Adobe Flash. The Silverlight run-time environment is required by some web sites, notably Netflix.

PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Windows and Unix platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator.

Java SE Runtime Environment

The Java JRE provides the Java Virtual Machine and other components required to run applets and applications written in the Java programming language. Use with caution because it's commonly a security problem when installed. Disable browser Java support unless you are sure need it for something.

ISO Recorder

ISO Recorder is a tool (power toy) for Windows that you can use to burn CD and DVD image-files onto blank writable media. Use it to re-create a physical disc that has been previously written to disk as an .ISO file.

IrfanView is a fast minimalist image-file viewer that also has some useful editing capabilities.

InfraRecorder

InfraRecorder is a free CD/DVD burning solution for Microsoft Windows. Because of patent license restrictions you'll need to download the MP3 plug-in separately.

HashCheck

The HashCheck Shell Extension allows you to confirm that your downloaded files have arrived intact and unaltered using checksums and hashes from Windows Explorer.

Gpg4win

Gpg4win provides secure email and file encryption with GnuPG for Windows. GnuPG is GNU Privacy Guard, an implementation of the OpenPGP encryption standard that provides both encryption and digital signatures.

Freeplane

Freeplane is mind mapping and knowledge management software that supports thinking, sharing information and getting things done at work, in school and at home. (Requires Java)

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox is an excellent web browser with some useful features. It works better if you set it up properly.

Pale Moon

Evince

Evince is a document viewer for multiple document formats, including PDFs. Evince supports forms.
